English school-based curriculum

Our English school-based curriculum focuses on the development of students' abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing. All subject teachers review school-based curriculum regularly through collaborative lesson preparation. To cater for learner diversity, different scaffolding tasks with answering tips or challenging questions are designed for students, e.g., Preparation Tasks, various types of worksheets. In our daily teaching, the subject teachers apply different levels of questions in the classroom to increase students' opportunities to participate in classroom activities. In addition, the subject teachers integrate positive thinking into their daily teaching. Different inspiring phrases are displayed in classrooms. Also, verbal or written positive feedback is provided to students in the learning process. About reading, Primary Literacy Programme (PLP) organized by Education Bureau is continued to implement in Key Stage 1 at our school. To enhance students' interest in reading, P1 to P3 subject teachers and the NET design suitable teaching materials through regular co-planning meetings. In addition, the NET conducts a speaking practice and a secondary school admission interview training for Primary 6 students to enhance their self-confidence and improve their English conversation skills. In writing, all subject teachers continue to optimize the teaching materials of our school-based writing curriculum in order to strengthen students’ writing ability. To make learning more interesting and effective, different interesting and contextual activities are designed for students through restructuring and adapting school-based curriculum. Furthermore, students would have the opportunities to learn English by using different learning platforms which make the lessons more interesting. On the other hand, the Primary One Bridging Programme is revised each year so as to help Primary 1 students build confidence in coping with the new modes on learning. Besides, the Form One Bridging Programme is provided for Primary 6 students to facilitate a smooth transition from primary to secondary learning. Students are also encouraged to participate in different competitions and obtained some pleasing results.
